2021 On Point Pinot Grigo

Billowing tropical, floral and citrus aromatics make this a truly ‘scent-sational’ introduction to vintage 2021. A mouthful of zingy ruby grapefruit emerges from the citrus mist, layered over honeyed tropical -almost guava- flavours that seem to keep trundling along to a lovely length, finishing with a zippy little lemon zest kick!

Our Pinot Grigio is named as a tribute to Trevor and Marilyn’s two granddaughters, in acknowledgement of their passion and excellence in ballet and dancing. It’s a play on the French ballet term ‘en pointe’; to stand on one’s toes in full extension – no easy feat – but something both granddaughters can do with ease and grace. We are extremely proud of our back-to-back sell-out successes for all past releases of our On Point Pinot Grigio.

2021 Tru-Su Rose

Our 2021 Rosé seems to have just ‘kissed the skins’ to pick up its unique vivid coral peach skin pinks, but has had enough contact to catch a bagful of bright aroma flavour combinations. Live juiced raspberry-cherry aromatics spiral from the glass with rose petal lift, over a spicy toffee apple back note, then the Tru-Su Rosé flavours bounce onto your palate with a splosh of raspberry velvet, snowballing on through ripe red cherries, to a fresh apple acid full stop.

Our Tru-Su dry Rosé is and made from 100% Shiraz grapes, grown on our own Eden Valley vineyard in the Barossa. It is named after Trudi and Susan – the two daughters of Brockenchack founders Trevor and Marilyn, who enjoy this style of wine.

2018 Zip Line Shiraz

Our Zip Line Shiraz is named after the zip line cable at our vineyard which generates endless laughter for all generations of the family – and much like this wine, it’s a smooth ride to the end. Our Zip Line Shiraz is made from our Eden Valley single vineyard Shiraz grapes, plucked from a combination of our older vines with an average vine age of 60 years, to give depth and complexity, and from our younger vines planted in 2008, to give fruit freshness and vibrancy. Whole berries spend 7 days on skins in open-top fermenters before being pressed and left to mature in a mix of new and old and French oak for approximately 15 months. Vibrant upon release, this wine will easily mature for 8 to 10 years to come.

Named after Trudi and Susan, daughters of Brockenchack’s owners Marilyn and Trevor Harch, this rosé looks like it’ll be lolly-like, but no. It’s dry dry dry people. 2021 vintage : Winter rainfall took some of the sting out the dry summer conditions. Mild temps for much of the growing season provided ideal conditions for growth and berry development. Uninterrupted flowering allowed good fruit set. Night temps were cooler than normal in Spring and Summer; these cooler nights critical to, and the hallmark for, the quality of grapes and wines from our Eden Valley vineyard, allowing our vines time to rest, and allowing aromatic flavours, finesse and natural acidity to be maintained. Mild daytime conditions provided optimal ripening, allowing great fruit flavours to develop. Quality is exceptional from our 2021 Eden Valley vintage. Whites are fine with amazing natural acid and intense flavours. Reds are flavourful and deeply coloured. A vintage for now, and for the long term.

2018 vintage: Our Eden Valley growing season started off well, with winter rainfall higher than average. In spring, drier soils combined with warmer than average spring days, meant the vine canopies grew quickly; flowering well and setting a good number of bunches. Summer rainfall was down on average and Jan and Feby were warm and dry, with very warm temps in February slowing down the pace of ripening. With the lower summer rainfall, growers with access to water, soil moisture monitoring, good irrigation management and healthy soils experienced less stress – and subsequently delivered sound fruit and consistent yields. These are all practices that Brockenchack invest heavily into. The Indian summer of March and early April were referred to as ‘the icing on the cake’, delivering average temps, without extremes. Overall a strong, healthy crop for us. We are delighted with the high-quality grapes and great yields this vintage delivered. The colours and flavours in our reds are exciting and the high level of natural acids in our whites reflect our great Eden Valley characteristics. Standout varieties for our region this year include Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet. We are very excited for the release of our ’18 reds in a few years’ time.
