EDEN VALLEY | BAROSSA
Family is at the core of everything we do at brockenchack
One family, connecting wine-enthusiasts across the globe through a shraed love of storytelling and fine wine. All it takes is one memorable bottle of Brockenchack wine for the family reunion to begin.
IT’S ALL IN THE NAME
This family venture is a tribute to the four grandchildren of founders Trev & Marilyn.
They even named it after them;
BROnte, MaCKENzie, CHArlie and JaCK.
FAMILY TRIBUTES
Each wine in the range is named after a cherished family member, or something of significance to the family.
Each wine is distinct in personality and flavour, wine its own story to tell.
STEEPED IN HISTORY
The Brockenchack Estate has been a working vineyard since the late 19th century, with Riesling vines dating back 1896, believed to be oldest in Australia, and Shiraz vines with an average age of 65 years.
When A Dream
Comes to Fruition…
Around 45 years ago Sunshine Coaster Trev had his first taste of Barossa Shiraz – and it was love at first sip!
For the following decade, he and wife Marilyn frequently visited the Barossa and also fell in love with its people, its passion, its history and its scenery. Trev knew that this was it… this is where he wanted to live and wine was what he wanted to do.
With a strong background in business, coupled with a history of avocado and persimmon farming, transitioning to growing your own grapes and establishing a wine brand seemed the next logical step.
It became Trev’s dream to make a wine that he’d be proud to call his own.
When the opportunity knocked in 2007 for Trev & Marilyn to secure their own little slice of paradise in Eden Valley, they jumped at the chance to take this passion and run with it. With a very promising first vintage in 2008, Trev and Marilyn knew they were onto something special and Brockenchack Wines was born.
Over the years Trev and Marilyn have grown the Brockenchack Estate to 120 acres, with over 40 acres under vine, now growing Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, plus this region’s stars, Riesling and Shiraz.
Parcels of vines on our single vineyard date back to the 19th century, allowing depth and complexity of flavour that no winemaking process can synthesize.
With plans of tending to his grapes until he’s 103, Trev’s vision is to turn this venture into a long-standing, multi-generational family-run winery, revered among the best in the Barossa.
Over the past 17 years the Brockenchack Estate has grown to include a state-of-the-art winery and bottling plant, luxury onsite bed & breakfast accommodations, an historic cellar door and a meticulously tended vineyard.
Trev and Marilyn’s now-adult grandchildren are moving into their retrospective roles within the family business, leading Brockenchack into a new era to reach even greater heights.Â
With family at the core of everything they do, Brockenchack has been built to stand the test of time…
THE EDEN VALLEY DIFFERENCE
THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE
High in South Australia’s famed Barossa region, you’ll find Brockenchack Wines, situated near world-renowned Henschke and Yalumba vineyards, in what is affectionately known as ‘the golden triangle’. Land steeped in viticulture history, with more still to come.
Eden Valley, the Barossa’s beautiful high country, is one of Australia’s premier cool climate wine growing regions, characterised by its rugged beauty and varied topography.
This ideal growing region delivers the optimal balance of warm days and cool nights, resulting in the most desirable acid-tannin-fruit balance and an impressive volume of aroma and flavour captured in each bottle.
STEEPED IN VITCULTURE HISTORY
With a wine making history dating back to 1847, Eden Valley is home to some of the world’s oldest Shiraz and Riesling vines.
The Brockenchack family are proud custodians of what are believed to be the oldest Riesling vines in Australia, dating back to 1896.
Our vineyard is also home to Shiraz vines that boast an average vine age of 65 years.
Old vines allow for a depth and complexity of flavour that no winemaking process can synthesize.
COOL CLIMATE WINES
Eden Valley wines are distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse.
Overall growing season temperatures in Eden Valley are significantly lower than those of the Barossa Valley. Brockenchack sits between 450m-480m above sea level and our final stages of ripening and harvesting take place in much cooler conditions. Our harvest is generally around three weeks later than the Barossa Valley floor.
Our varied terrain offers micro-climate pockets, allowing us to grow a range of varietals from cool climate Pinot Noir, to sun loving Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A MIX OF SOIIL TYPES
Rolling exposed hills with moderately steep gradients are commonplace, and given this varied terrain there are a number of soil types.
The most common range from grey to brown in colour and from loamy sand to clay loams. Ironstone gravels, quartz gravels and rock fragments are present in the surface and subsurface.
Towering gum trees and big chunks of granite are scattered across our land. The granite balances the pH of the soil, optimising the vines’ ability to absorb and digest crucial soil nutrients.
ACHIEVEMENTS

“Our family has worked hard over the past 17 years to refine our collection and deliver wines which are best enjoyed with family and friends. Along the way we’re thrilled to have picked up some awards and recognition around the globe, demonstrating our consistent quality.”

sustainability
Sustainability is of great importance to the longevity of our family business. Everything we do is with the thought of future generations and with leaving our land in a better place than when we first took custodianship.
We’re future-proofing our vineyard in a responsible manner, with improved efficiencies and better growing outcomes for the next generations.
We’ve improved rainfall catchments with the installation of almost half a million litres of rainwater tanks, to complient our dam supply.
Computerised soil mositure probes determine the optimal location and duration of drip feed irrigation required, to give us precise control over vine watering.
Working with an agronomist we measure and critically examine soil nutrient levels, to determine how to nurture optimal growth, fight diseases and improve quality using natural remedies first and foremost.Â
Manure and compost are used as natural nutrient sources to improve organic soil matter.
Straw mulch under vines improves our soil moisture retention, lowers soil temps, reduces vine stress, reduces weeds and creates good habitats for micro-organisms and worms to thrive in.
Mid-row grasses help keep soil temperatures low and improve organic matter in our soils and healthy levels of beneficial bugs and insects are maintained to help with natural control of unwanted species.
Extra foliage wires on certain varietals helps to build higher canopies and protect grapes from sunburn, reduce heat stress and reduce water consumption.
The application of a wash-off all-natural clay sunscreen to our white grapes protects them from sunburn and heat stress in hotter periods.
The introduction of solar powered laser bird deterrents has replaced much of our labour-intensive bird netting.
Our use of solar power throughout the vineyard over the past decade and our carbon offset program is equivalent to planting 27 trees a month.
The addition of our onsite solar powered winery and bottling plant has drastically cut down on cartage and haulage.
And we’ve already changed over half of our bottles to lighter glass, reduced our volume of packaging and moved to a more recycled carton board.
“We will continue to investigate ways to improve our business operations, to lessen our impact on local and global environments.”
